‘A Brother’s gift’ - The Story
Sometimes little children are able to teach adults such lessons in life that they are left astounded at their depth of love and understanding. Such experiences have a profound effect on our psyches and change the whole outlook towards living. The following is one such story of love of a young boy for his brother that is bound to touch the most hardened of souls.
A shiny new car
For Christmas, one year, Paul’s rich brother gave him a shiny red car, eye catching and beautiful. Paul took it to office with him and parked it in front while he worked inside. At the end of the day when he came out to leave for home, he saw a small boy, a street urchin, admiring the automobile with big, shining eyes. When he saw Paul he asked him if the car belonged to Paul. Paul told the boy that it was a Christmas gift from his brother. At that the little boy was struck dumb and gaped at Paul. He said, ‘You mean to say that this car has not cost you anything and your brother just gave it to you?’ Paul nodded and said, ‘Yes.’
A wistful look came into the boy’s eyes and he said, ‘I wish’¦’ Paul naturally assumed that the child wished he had a brother like Paul’s. The little child totally stumped Paul by saying that he wished he could be such a brother and gift his little brother a car like that. Paul felt ashamed and asked the boy if he wanted a ride in the car. At this the boy’s eyes shone and he requested Paul to drive the car past the boy’s house. Paul assumed that the boy wanted to impress his neighbors and by riding in the car but he was again proved wrong when the boy asked him to stop in front of some steps, got out of the car and went into a small house.
In a few moments he was back walking slowly and Paul saw that he was carrying his crippled younger brother in his arms. The boy gently put his brother down on the steps, put his arms around his shoulders, and said, ‘Look that is the car I am going to give you, someday. You will then be able to see all the Christmas festivity through your own eyes and it is not going to cost you anything.’
Paul was moved to tears. He got out of the car, gently lifted the small boy in his arms and put him in the front passenger seat. He asked the elder boy to join them and started the car to take them on a Christmas sight seeing trip.
Paul silently thanked the brothers for giving him the most precious Christmas gift he had ever received in his life.
That was a great story and I can always recommend a good material for story telling specially for kids which could be a good christmas gifts this season. Why not try videos for bible stories?
