Special Christmas cookies

Our fondest childhood memories generally are of visits to our Grandparents’ house at Christmas time, more specifically Grandma’s cookie table piled high with dozens of different varieties. Baking Christmas cookies yourself can be a pleasant way of surprising visitors to your home and a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday season. You can even send Christmas cookies in a gift basket to show your appreciation or well wishes. Here are some freshly baked Christmas cookie ideas.

Chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies

  • 2 c Dark brown sugar
  • 2 c Granulated sugar
  • 2 c Crisco
  • 4 extra large eggs
  • 4 tsp Vanilla
  • 4 tbsp Milk 4 c Flour
  • 2 tsp Baking powder
  • 2 tsp Baking soda
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 2 12 oz semi-sweet choc-chips
  • 4 c Old fashioned oatmealPreheat oven to 350. Cream together the sugars, shortening, eggs, vanilla and milk and beat until fluffy. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Gradually add to creamed mixture. Mix well with a spoon. Stir in chocolate chips, oatmeal. Drop by teaspoonfuls on lightly greased cooking sheet.Bake for 12-15 minutes. Do not over bake. Plain Christmas cookies

  • 2 1/2 c. plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. soft shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
  • 1 eggSift together flour, soda and salt. Put in large bowl. Add other ingredients. Mix well. Shape in balls. Bake on un-greased cookie sheet in 350 degree oven until brown.
