- Poinsettia belongs to the Spurge family and is a native of Mexico. It is popularily known as Christmas star because during Christmas this plant shines with its own light. This plant is particularly interesting because of its bracts, which look like red or yellowish petals. Its flowers are yellow and very small. They are available in a wide variety of colors including pink, white, speckled and yellow. Remember to choose plants which are thoroughly colored and have lengthened bracts.
- Flowering Christmas cactus: Even though the poinsettia is considered the trendiest holiday plant, a healthy Christmas cactus in full bloom is a great gift idea for someone with a green thumb. It is easy to look after and can be grown indoors throughout the year. They come in all colors -yellow, salmon, pink, fuchsia and white or a combination of all these.
- Cyclamen: These are available in many colors and are considered winter and spring flowering plants. Cyclamen are traditionally sold during the Christmas season and into the winter. Most plants flower from mid-November until mid February if the weather remains fair.
