About 50% of the recently asked questions on Yahoo Answers Christmas are similar: “Need help with Christmas gift ideas for a relative/friend?”.
We used thousands of very recent ‘Letter to Santa‘ entries to calculate which are the most wanted gifts and to create the Most Wanted Gifts’ Calculator.
We have started to analyze the results and here are some interesting data:
Top 20 most wanted gifts for 2006:

- Video game console (6.2%)
- MP3 player (4.6%)
- Clothes (4.4%)
- Animal (4.15%)
- Video games (4%)
- Car (3.6%)
- Cell phone (3%)
- Computer (3%)
- Adult (2.3%)
- Bike (1.9%)
- Money (1.8%)
- Love (1.8%)
- Shoes (1.6%)

Video Game Consoles (#2)
The most wanted video game consoles are the Nintendo DS (21%) and the PS3 (18%) with the xbox 360 coming in 3rd position (12%).
MP3 Players (#3)
The iPod is the most popular MP3 player with 85% of all MP3 player requests. The Zune appears to be virtually unknown or reffered to as ‘other’ MP3 player.
Most wanted animals (#5)
With about 4% of the participants wishing for an animal, you may like to know which one is the most popular… A puppy/dog is definitely a winner with 50% or all animal requests. The second being a pony/horse.
