How to buy a baby doll
These days, to buy a baby doll is not as simple as getting a doll that is soft, cuddly and cute - one that simply pulls at your heart strings. Of course if the doll is for a child it does not matter if it is not a limited edition or a collector’s item. At such times other considerations like the material, the weight and small body parts of the doll, become more important. Most big companies like Madame Alexander, Lee Middleton or Gund make excellent baby dolls for very young children. Other like Barbie, Bratz and Dora make excellent baby dolls for young children. Here are some guidelines to help you select the right baby doll for a child.
A few guidelines
- First and foremost, fix a budget. There is almost no limit to what you can spend on a new doll and accessories (from a $20 Toys’R'Us doll to a $100 to $150 Lee Middleton doll) so calculate your price range and try to consider only those items that fall within that price range.
- If you are buying the doll for a very small child (5 years or younger) you need to check the weight of the doll. Small children would be very happy with a small baby doll because they are not at ease carrying the larger, heavy baby dolls.
- Look for a baby doll that is made for play. Many dolls are washable and durable and they have an interior armature that lets them hold poses. Remember that children prefer hair that is thicker - that can be combed and played with.
- Do not make up your mind in a hurry. Check out the traditional stores and also the net, for the best bargains. Compare the prices as well as the products at both places before making the final decision.
Do’s
- Be sure to check out the wig before making your purchase. If the doll is wearing a cap, make sure that you take it off and see the wig and check out her hair.
- Sometimes you want to change the look of your doll, or play with her. If so, buy some extra outfits for your doll.
Don’ts
- Do not forget to include batteries for the battery operated dolls.
