Helping the Needy for Christmas
Christmas is a time to think about others besides your family. Helping the needy is good for you, your children and for the needy as well.
There are many options available and you owe it to yourself and your family the joy of helping others during the holiday season. It’s inexpensive and involves only your time and what you’re willing to donate.
Charities
Start by reading the newspaper for opportunities to help at a charity or donate to a charity. Look for charities that allow children to help so your children can gain in the experience. There are also donation opportunities and volunteering opportunities on the internet. There are sites for volunteering by zip code that will match you to a series of volunteering opportunities.
Child Welfare Services
Check with child welfare services in your community to see what the children need. Many children are in shelters or foster homes and don’t have any opportunity for Christmas gifts other than what is donated to programs to help them. Some programs want only money while other programs will take new unwrapped toys to match with a needy child. Have your own children pick out gifts for needy children so they understand what the process is all about.
Churches
Churches also have volunteering and donation opportunities. Often local families can be ‘adopted’ for Christmas by other parishioners. Information about the family members is given, including requests and sizes and ages, so that you can pick out gifts for the entire family. The exchange of gifts is through a third party so that you can anonymously donate gifts to a needy family. You can also do this by picking out a needy family in your own neighborhood.
Shelters
Donate money to church or to those organisations that collect money for the poor. A little bit of charity spread out over time adds up to a nice donation. In addition, you can volunteer your time at a community Christmas dinner. It takes only a few hours of time and it brings joy to the poor who get a nice Christmas dinner. Speak to the manager of a local shelter and show up Christmas day with treats and tea or cider. Make certain you have enough to go around.
Christmas can be a festive time where you give of yourself to others. Take the time to find a good charity and include your family in your charitable activities.
This year my family will be in poverty for xmas there is not
enough food and money to pay our bills.

We wish for our son to have hot showers:) Haven’t had hot water for 6 months. The water is getting ice cold. It was fine in the summer. Live in high desert, it gets as low as 20 degrees. Mobile home uses propane. Had to turn tank in, lost some income. We wish for an electric water heater. My husband and I are disabled, we do ok in the ice cold water, but we wish for our son to have hot showers again. With propane so expensive an electric water heater wouldn’t run out of fuel:) We have been warming up his water on the 5 gallon propane BBQ, since our stove broke also. But we are happy to BBQ every day

would never ask for help but in the beginning of October I slipped and fell and broke my wrist in two places now my work says I am a liability right now and cannot work until I am healed, but they can’t guarantee they can hold my job for me. ( then a week later i get in a car accident, on that same day my other car went out. We then buy a truck with the last of our money and it broke down a week later. I was going to ask for prayers and see if you have any assistance for christmas and thanksgiving. We live so far out of town I haven’t been able to apply anywhere. We live in meadowbrook and have no vehicle and my inlaws are so broke they cant help us at the moment they are scrounging even for gas right now. If you don’t have assistance available would you know of someone else. I am trying to apply for foodstamps but I cant get get the paperwork I need to complete that with no vehicle. The insurance is covering our accident but they are giving the money to bennet brothers where we purchased our vehicle and we still have to pay them 3200.00 after the insurance money. I hate asking for help but I have come between a rock and a hard place.

I know you are very busy around this time, but I promise to be brief. My name is Elisa Richardson. I’m a 25year old female, single mother of 2, who resides in Joliet IL. I grew up in Harvey IL Where I graduated from Thornton High School and then moved on to college, DeVry University where I received my Associate in Electronics and Bachelors in Technical Management. I then got a hold of several contract work in my field. But Times got tough for me.
Then a tragedy hit in my eyes. A friend I known for over 7yrs got sick to the point where she left her 8 children in the home for weeks with no food, no heat or water on the south side of Chicago. How they managed that long until I came over I don’t know. I tried my best for one week with all her children and my 2, in my 2 bedroom apartment. I couldn’t handle all the pressure so three of her children had to go live with the grandmother. I did not like the fact that they had to be split up but I had no other choice. It was very over whelming. During Jan-June 2008 she checked in to a treatment center and she is trying to get her self together. So I told her I would try my best with the 4 children that still reside with me. When I say it has been a BIG change in my family going from three to seven can be hard and stressful, especially at my age. I don’t even get help from my own baby father. Lately it’s been hurting so much I don’t know where else to turn. I mean we go to counselors and we attend my family church. I try keeping us all busy. But it’s also hard getting a job in my field especially the way the job market is going and taking care of 7 kids when only 2 are my biological children. I love them all dearly but I’m getting to the point where I really need help. Someone to motivate me because im so stressed out and depressed. I know I’m a Strong young lady but I haven’t had anything burden on me like this before. Can someone please be a blessing to our family this year.

My name is Tamara age 33.
Being a single mother of four boys is a challenging task. I presently moved back to Kansas City to surround us with family support. There is a lot of positive support from family and friends, but what really takes a lot of patience is our lack of transportation.
I have always looked at myself as a survivor that can stand on her own two feet and deny defeat. I came back form Texas to leave an abusive relationship of five years. We had to start form ground zero. Just fine, as long as we had one another and everyone is safe.
I really feel that I would be able to accomplish more for myself and the boys if I had a vehicle to transport us all. My sons ages range from 14 to 5 (14, 9, 8 & 5). My parenting would be a lot more effective if we are blessed with a car. You’d be surprised what a trip to the park could do for an incentive. There is comfort in having your own freedom to get around like you need. The advantage of being able to visit my children’s school to keep up on their grades and behavior is not an option for me. I even moved in a home where necessities are accessible (e.g. grocery store, laundry mat, barber shop and on the bus line (that runs once an hour).
In our home we all work together as a team to get things done, but it gets difficult to teach my boys independence when I have to depend on others. Their individuality thrives on activities such as sports, youth services, volunteering, library trips and of course helping mom with the home business.
A lot of job opportunities for my line of work are outside my county. The bus commute can be anywhere from3 to 4 hours there and back thus reflects my unemployment. While looking for employment I am working on a business proposal for starting a coffee shop. Different types of cakes and doughnuts will be on display as well. The name of my business is “Tamtaions”. I am looking for help for my 2 children this year for christmas,
I was working for Walmart, here where i live at and filed for workers comp. When i done this they sent me to their doctor (which one took me off work and then the next day the other doctor sent me back to work said that Walmart dont like to have their employees off work on workers comp) so I went to another doctor who agreed that i should be off work, so I have been off work since June and we went to court on October 28th and Walmart finally approved my medical benefits, however does not want to pay me for my time off so i now have to file an appeal and go back to court who knows when this will happen, my doctor has sense released me back to work with restrictions but in the process Walmart fired me, and trying to find a job when you have restrictions and a workers comp claim is proving to be a hard task to conquere my kids dad has nothing to do with them and doesnt pay child support except when he feels like it and i have been jumping thru hoops trying to get child support to help me. We are getting ready to move in with my brother cause i cant afford to pay for anything and we are losing it all, I have no money for anything so any help that can be tossed my way would be greatly appreciated if you can help me please email me at [email protected]

I also am in need. Like everyone else and believe me this is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I have 4 kids 7,9,11&13. I am working paying the bills and taking all we have, my husband lost his job and has been trying to find 1. My kids believe in Santa still, and I have tried to explain to them that we just cant have presents this year, they say well Santa will bring them. It just breaks my heart that when Christmas morning comes and they come out to open presents, that all that will be under the tree is the floor. I am having a hard time this year> I recently lost my father, my best friend and now this I had to tell my children that i wont be able to buy them any presents for christmas. My boys 9 years old and 5 months old. My girls 8 and 3 years olds. This was so hard to see there faces watch their tears fall and ask me why? Is Santa mad at me? Was i not good this year? None of this is was why they wont get a gift from santa. I try to explain the economy to them but they dont understand. I know this is about finding a cheritable org. to donate to but I am looking for a program or someone to help get toys for my son for Christmas this year. His birthday is also on the 17th and we have no money for that either. Me and my husband and our son Xa’vion moved to Sarasota 2 months ago because we were living in a motel paying 1000. dollars a month for one room and we had a chance to rent a 3 br for 650. It was a no brainer but my husband has not been able to find a job since we moved and we have been forced to apply for welfare and have yet to recieve it. I am disabled and so is my son, he was only 3 lbs 1 oz when born and he has VSD. which is a large hole in his heart. He is now almost one year old and growing strong. He is happy and so handsome but I know my husband is feeling pretty bad that he can’t provide anything for his birthday or Christmas this year. He doesn’t know I’m asking for help and I’m not even sure anyone will respond but as a mother who loves her child I had to try. I am a mother of 2 - my biological daughter age 19 months and my step daughter age 11.I have been blessed to have a job that at least pays the bills. My entire income has gone towards our house payment. I was feeling down about not being able to provide gifts for loved ones and the needy. My stepdaughter told me ” it’s ok, Christmas is giong to be great because we will all be together and I love being with my family. Man, she is so right! I love my family. I thank God that We have a roof over our heads and food to nurish our bodies. I am blessed, truely blessed. My girls are 15 and 16 one is almost deaf and is having trouble accepting her condition and was placed in an R.T.F for help,
the other one is in a psychiatric center for stress related issues in school. All our running for them and our car is breaking down little by little, we dont have very much to give them a Christmas this year. I would like to know if you can help us so they dont come home to an empty holiday this year. Normally they get very nice things but this year has been tuff money wise.

These times are tough for everyone. But I must make a request.
I just moved to Johnson City with my 3 children from CT.
I’m having a hard time getting them to know what an awesome time of year this is. My husband came her to make a better life for us and he just got laid off due to the business closing.Christmas is about family, and Christ, but to little kids it’s much more than that. They all want presents under the tree even if only a few.
We are usually the family that gives to the needy, how ever this year that can’t happen. If you can find it in your budget to help with Christmas we would greatly appreciate it.
My daughter is 8 and loves horses, and dolls, and anything pink:)
My 6 yr old son wants to join the Army when he grows up, and loves building things. also needs a winter coat size 6

Me and there father have no way to get our children anything for christmas. People have told them that if you are not good santa wont bring you anything and if they have nothing under the tree i am afraid it will be a bad day for them. they will think that they didnt get anything because they where bad and that is not the case they are great kids. I lost my job and home in Iowa after that I was unemployed for so long the last straw came when my home was robbed and I lost most of my belongings thats when I pick up my doggies packed my car with what I had left and moved to colorado and landed a job still was not making it there cause of the high cost of living and have spent much of time sleeping in my car. Never once felt bad always knew some how god would take of me now i am in new mexico i have a part time job but would like a full time job i applied at maxicare I hope they call me soon working with developmental disabilities My adult children have been lost their dad he died and then their mom going threw what i have been through My kids have been through alot they have seen me struggle yet they can not help me cause they have the kids to think about. They are the best kids any mother could ask for, My children are my life, and so are my grandchildren I would love any help for them to have a good Christmas.and I would love moving money to get to florida so I can live with my daughter and her husband. .Economy has hit me hard, I struggling to pay bills, let alone provide any type of Christmas for my adult children and my grandchildren. Hi there, I am 17 years old and I am eight months pregnant and my dad lost his job back in September and my mom is the only income right now. They are struggling so very hard to keep bills paid on time, but the bank accounts are getting smaller and I would love some help for them for the bils that they have. My mom wants to buy something for the baby but it is either pay the light bill or phone bill and now we need to repair one of our bathroom flooors, because the toliet is about to fall through and the guy that my mom called told her he would charge her $75.00 but she had to buy the materials for the repairs. My mom said that she has a negative balance in her bank and she has over $500.00 in bills that are coming up due after the 12th of this month. She told that she is $100.00 behind in the light bill and $75.00 behind in the phone bill. I hope that you can help them out with the bills that they have and maybe something so they can buy aomething for their first grandchild. My dad has a lot of hospital bills for himself also, because he was attacked by a teenager who was on drugs and he stabbed my dad in the forhead and he received 14 stitches and now he has hospital bills for me and the baby. I am a single mother of two, eleven (son) and seventeen (daughter). I have absolutely no extra money for Christmas. My main concern is my eleven year old son. I have reached out to all the local churches, but I have missed the deadline. I am not at all concerned about myself, and my seventeen year old is old enough to understand the situation I am in. She works and helps me with the bills when she can. I just don’t want to let my son down. If anyone out there can help it will be greatly appreciated.

I know a couple that purchased some land with water access. Come to find out the party that sold them the land, lied about their water rights. They have contacted a lawyer about the problem, but might not have a settlement until possibly spring or later. They have to haul their drinking water into their small travel trailer. They are a sweet couple and very proud. I was wondering if there was a nice but discount facility in Spokane, Washington around Sprague Ave. and Broadway where they can shower when needed.

In 2008 I went from working two jobs and scraping by to in 2009 losing my place to live in October. I live in an elderly woman basement and take care of her for room and board. I have three children. In September of 2008 my ex husband got primary physical custody of two of the children. the oldest lives with me. This Christmas is going to be tough because I now only make about 700 a month and 280 goes to my ex for child support. by the time I pay my bills I have nothing left for extras, my children are 19, 16, and 8. this is the first year I fear of not being able to give them anything at all. I pray every day for something to give and to see the light at the end of the tunnel but it is hard. thanks for your time and you have a blessed day.

Please help save my daughter’s live.
Many of you are parents and can relate to my indescribable pain. My daughter Olia adge 3 and half is in urgent need of bone marrow transplantation. Olia suffers from sever aplastic anemia and her only chance of survival is a bone marrow transplantation .Unfortunately clinics in our country don’t do such complicated treatment. Clinic in Israel offers treatment of this disease, it is almost impossible to get there (the cost of the treatment is incredible high 250000$ our family does not have money to pay for this treatment) But despite all our hearts believe in a miracle, believe that there are kind-hearted people who will help to save our daughter life. Our only happiness would be to see our girl healthy and happy. We beg you to help collect up money for our daughter!

I live on unemployment which is only $600 a month. I am living with my mother-in-law in an age qualified mobile home park. I recieved a letter a few weeks ago telling me to vacate immediatly. Generally I have a concern on poor families who can not take good care of their children. I am developing a nursery school to take care for good basic foundation for pre primary schools to help orphans, children with single parents ( particularly with mothers only or poor and old grand parents )the under privileged and poor community in the village.

I am a 55 year old male who is disabled from a head-on collision with a 18 wheeler in 1989(I was driving a dump-truck) My wife who was a teacher is disabled,are youngest son 25 is disabled,the middle son 27 is physo and disabled,the oldest 30 is serving our great nation in the Air-Force.This is what we were dealt,but do we need help,ASAP.For two years I’ve been looking for help,I’ve wrote to the President of the United States,my senator,mayor,V.A.,hud,local,state,federal,etc.etc. Just about anyone I thought could help me,and my family out,even tried to get on the T.V. show Extreme Home Make-Over.Here’s what’s wrong,roof leaks,plumbing leaks,floors are buckled-up in kitchen,dining room,living room. OUR HEATER has not worked in two years we use our burners to try and keep warm cause our oven doesn’t work any more,house needs paint in,and out side,need two trees cut down.There are more problems with this home than what I’ve listed just too many to list.This is going to cost so much money involved in this project that I no that its just next to in- possible to find this kind of help,but by some chance,or maybe some one can tell me how to find the help we need at this time of giving.There was a time when we could afford to get this work done,we paid cash for this home,my you just never no whats in store for ones self..May God Bless Everyone,and Merry Christmas to All……Robert

My saddness this xmas have’nt seen my family in 5 yrs, single mom, disable, no transportation to sign up to get xmas presents or food this year.it so hard…
When I had a car I took everyone to their appts, shopping ect, since last yr my car broke down and no one calls me, nada, it seems people call when they need..that is so sad…know alone here , my family all of them live out of state, no $$$$$$$$$$ I only get SSDI ….

The words “PASS IT FORWARD” have never meant so much to me as NOW! I am usually the one that don ates presents to those less fortunate than I. I have always loved to give…my husband says I have given us into the “poor house” & the sad thing is he is right! Now I have to seek help..it is the hardest thing I have ever done… we have lost everything, laid off, no work…I have called every angency to try to find presents for my 6 grandchildren with no luck because I missed the “cutoff” date..Really.. are you kidding me… what about the children that have NOTHING? I am sending this request, on behalf of myself a katrina survivor. I was injured on her job in 2008 and was recently taken off duty from a medical disability. I received which has forced me off duty without pay since June 2011 and to apply for disability. I am a 45 year old mother of 3, who cares for my elderly uncle with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. I have recently been asked to leave my residence by the landlord due to my financial struggles. My vehicle was stolen and since I was injured I have not been able to purchase a car and I have been using my friend’s truck for far too long. I need to get to and from appointments without any issues. I can’t drive the whole family to church because the truck is a 3 seater. I am have to move November 31, 2011 if I can’t pay my rent balance. Thanksgiving and Christmas has become very depresing for me. Can you please help me?

I am a single mother of 3 kids, 2 Boys & 1 Girl, Chris 10, Alex 8 & Cristal 3, times have been very rough this year for me, my hours were cut down from 40 hrs to 20 hrs a week, having 3 kids on my income is very hard, I have faith it will get better, but I do not know how I am going to handle buying my kids their christmas gifts this year. Ho, Ho, Ho! Have a Merry Christmas, to you. Matter of fact, in advanced; “Thank you, for sponsoring parents like me that can’t provide a Christmas for their kids due to the economy.
Here’s our story, I’ve been undergoing countless operations since year 2004. My daughter has unknown illness that causes her to missed at leased one day out of school per school week. My daughter had witness and saw my immediate family suffering from Breast Cancer. The chemo/radiation was so awful of a ten year old to witness. Then my oldest sister passed and I witness the cancer, oozed out of her eyes… as she took her last and final breaths from this world; I whispered go to Jesus.
I had job searched even though my body was not up to part. I parked my ride and go building to building and distributed Resumes and cover letters and still no work. I sent out letters for Christmas helped and only one church was able to provide a little something. I’m a very grateful person and I helped the elderly in my neighborhood although money wised I’m without. Often, my daughter and I ran out of food and everything you need in your house hold to supply your needs; if my child lose weight, her physicians will questioned and threaten to alert authorizes. Therefore, I saved food receipts and that’s my proof that feed my child.
Usually, my daughter brings Christmas to others in a production at Christmas season but I had NO Money for fees. Two weeks ago, I fractured my foot very bad and have trouble walking. I’m not on crutches now, but my foot is not healed to stand on for a long period. If an employer calls, they aren’t going to hired me hopping around for Christmas work next, after I borrowed countless money on credit to fixed my car to pass inspection. I just learned, I have a major oil leak. I can’t pay for anything right now. I’m flat broke. Yes, I’m having a rough time. I need hope that people do care and Christmas miracles do happen … My spirits little low… you are my last resource for providing Christmas in my house.
