Warm clothes for Christmas
Everyone should be warm at Christmas. Here are a few ideas on how to help keep both loved ones and strangers warm when the snow starts to fly.
Having warm clothes in the winter, especially at Christmas, is something that should be considered for every person and living being. Christmas, unless you celebrate it in countries south of the equator, is smack dab in the middle of the coldest time of year. Without warm clothing, many people and animals could run into serious problems such as hypothermia, frostbite and death. From college students to pets to deep sea fishermen everyone should be this holiday.
Student clothes
If you have a college student in your family that goes to school in an area that is less than sunny all season long, then consider giving them warm clothes for Christmas this year. Most university campuses are large, sprawling institutions and walking from the dorms to the classroom in 21 degree weather can get a bit nippy. Stock your student up with: scarves, warm hiking socks that are comfortable and water resistant; long underwear made of silk to keep you warm outside and cooler insides; fleece mittens, hats, scarves, and pullover; waterproof winter boots; pajamas and slippers made of fleece or flannel; a down winter coat or jacket; and wool blend sweaters.
Clothes for pets
Don’t forget your pet this winter, either. While some people may feel that animals have fur for this reason, really cold areas with a lot of snow could affect small dogs. We’re not mentioning cats here simply because very few cats will leave clothing on and, face it, they’re smart enough to stay in when there is snow on the ground. Dogs on the other hand will appreciate little sweaters, jackets, and even booties. If you have a dog that doesn’t seem to mind being dressed up, you can turn them in Santa or Mrs. Claus with the wide variety of dog clothing that is warm and perfect for Christmas.
Christmas clothes
Do you enjoy knitting or crocheting? Consider creating warm clothing for organizations such as ‘Christmas At Sea’ who provides sailors with warm clothing at Christmas time so that they can continue their livelihood even in the winter. Donate a sweater to the Salvation Army or Goodwill even. Yes, the time it takes to make the item is worth quite a bit, but there will be some soul this winter that will be highly appreciative of your thoughtfulness and handiwork whenever they wear the sweater that you made and stay warm. Socks, mittens, scarves, hats, and sweaters are always needed for the Christmas season and if you truly enjoy making these items, consider donating some as well.
