Christmas games for children
A quick overview of some popular games that can be played with children during the Christmas season.
Children love to play a variety of games and they can be as simple as a game of ‘Christmas Concentration’ and ‘Trim the Tree’. Both are very simple to make for your children and they provide hours of enjoyment over and over again throughout the holiday season.
Christmas Concentration
Probably the easiest one to make is ‘Christmas Concentration’. Gather up about twenty different pictures that can easily be duplicated so that you have two of each. Paste them to a piece of poster board and then cut into squares all the same size for shuffling. Turn them face down in rows on a table or the floor and then see how many the children can match. Play alternates between you and the child or between two children.
The one with the most pairs is declared the winner. If the children are smaller, start with fewer cards, maybe about six or eight. As they get better at the game, you can add more cards.
Trim the Tree
‘Trim the Tree’ will take a little more effort to make, but this variation of ‘Pin The Tail On The Donkey’ will definitely elicit some laughter from your children. Take a good sized picture of a Christmas tree and cover it with laminate or clear contact paper to both protect and allow it to be used multiple times. Then make ‘ornaments’ that can be taped to the tree. Have the children line up and then as they step to ‘trim the tree’, blindfold them, turn them around three times, and send them towards the tree.
Your tree will be decorated in no time, even if there is a teddy bear on top.
