Cyber Monday is the name for the Monday following Thanksgiving and it is considered to be one of the busiest online shopping days of the year.
The term is a neogolism that was coined by Shop.org, a division of the National Retail Federation, the world’s largest retail trade association. Cyber Monday has become the Christmas kickoff for online retailers and shoppers. With every passing year the phenomenon of Cyber Monday seems to grow bigger and stronger with many people spending the day ordering gifts online.
Origin of the term
The term came into existence in 2005 to coincide with the mania that overtook shoppers who did most of their holiday shopping over the internet. Shop.org was not responsible for the phenomenon of Cyber Monday; it merely gave a name to the shopping madness that was very akin to what took place on Black Friday but on cyber space.
What takes place
The internet has become an extremely compelling way of marketing and selling goods. Traders have reached the conclusion that even those people who choose to do their holiday shopping at stores; the internet can still be a great device for enticing them into spending. Thus a lot of online traders follow the store sale custom and offer discounts and attractive deals to web customers who get their orders in early on Cyber Monday. A few retailers even offer incentives and savings options for first-time customers. Though the most attractive deals are normally offered on and around Cyber Monday, many online companies offer discounts throughout the holiday season.

Myth vs. Truth
Although Cyber Monday is a very important shopping day, online traders have stated that the biggest online shopping day of the year is generally the last day on which customers are guaranteed to receive their packages before Christmas. This day is normally December 5th or December 12th.
