The Perfect Christmas Toy
2009 was a huge year for trinkets and gadgets. From mp3 players to video games, this year there are toys for the young and old alike. Deciding which toys are right for the family can be a bit unnerving; however, the decision need not be completely worrisome with a little thought and some discretion.
For the Lads
Whether nine or 49, it’s all about superheroes and super electronics this year.
Video Games
2009 was a great year for consoles. Nintendo’s Wii took its first price cut, so owning one of these magnificent machines is more feasible. The video games ranged from the purely fanciful to the absolutely grotesque, but what most of these games had in common is their innovation. From Halo 3 to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, these games saw an incredible improvement in gameplay and graphic detail.
Electronics
iPod’s latest innovation, the newest iPod Touch, never fails to impress. As with many of the popular trinkets on the market, the iPod Touch, too, saw a price reduction. The amount of mp3’s on the market saw a rise in production, everybody wanting their slice of the portable music player pie. Believe it or not, the mp3 that tops the list on Top Ten Reviews’ list of best mp3 players of 2009 is not the iPod Touch, but rather the Cowon D2. At a price parents can live with, Cowon’s D2 is chock full of features rivalling the Touch; however, unlike iPods which use the Apple cornered market of mp4 technology, the D2 supports multiple file formats.
For the Ladies
Girls of all ages also have their eyes on the newest toys this holiday season.
Video Games: Somewhat surprisingly, a huge part of the video game clientele is female. The aforementioned games are as intriguing for girls as they are for boys. However, some of the games that appeal to the fairer sex have a great deal to do with keeping healthy. Ninentdo’s Wii Fit is a huge attraction for the ladies, helping keep those Christmas carbs at bay.
Plushes
Not surprisingly, there are a cavalcade of plush toy characters this year to add to their stuffed animal menagerie, a few of which are lifelike enough to fool some parents into believing they have another mouth to feed.
There are virtually hundreds of choices for kids of all ages. Be sure to shop with care.

I really think that the hot gift this year is going to be Paper Jamz, the cardboard toy guitars. My kids are really excited about them!
