The Blessed Mother
The story of the birth of Christ began on the day of the annunciation. The angel Gabriel appeared before Mary, a pure hearted lady who was blessed among all women. Gabriel proclaimed that she was above all chosen by the Lord God. It was made known by the message of Gabriel that Mary was to conceive the promised Messiah through the Holy Ghost.
Message of an angel
Mary was already Saint Joseph’s betrothed wife and were already preparing for the concluding rites of their marriage. During this time the angel Gabriel appeared before her bearing the great news from the Lord God. Through the Holy Ghost Mary was to conceive the coming Messiah.
At first Mary was troubled since she was still a virgin and was still unsure of what was happening. Gabriel then said to her “Rejoice, you highly favored one! The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women!” and then explained to her the power of the Holy Spirit and the destiny of her child. Mary enlightened by it all, answered “Behold, the handmaid of the Lord; be it to me according to your word.” With that the angel Gabriel told her that the baby should be named Jesus and then departed from her.
Saint Joseph was made known of the message through a dream with an angel of the Lord. At first he was surprised with what he found out but, the angel told him that there was nothing to be afraid of and that he should take Mary as his wife.
The birth of the saviour
In the course of events that followed, Mary and Saint Joseph found out that her previously barren cousin Elizabeth had also miraculously conceived a child. The Blessed Mother together with Saint Joseph travelled to give their cousin their best wishes. It was also during this time that Elizabeth proclaimed that Mary was the “Mother of the Lord”.
Through a decree of the Roman emperor Augustus, Mary and Saint Joseph had to travel for the census. But while they were there, Mary felt the coming of the child. They looked everywhere for someplace to stay but all the places they went to had no place for them. With no proper place to stay, the Blessed Mother gave birth in a place “fit for beasts” and used a humble manger as a bed for the baby Jesus, the king of all kings.
The Virgin
Mary eventually became known as the blessed mother not only of Christ, but of everyone. Through her never-ending acts of kindness and compassionate actions, people bestowed upon her numerous names. She is the Blessed Virgin Mary, the help of Christians, the queen of heaven and the holy virgin. She may be called by any name but, she will always remain as the cause of our joy, the holy mother of all.
She conceived and gave birth to the Messiah as a virgin. Through this, everyone can certainly see the miraculous power of our Lord God and the purity of our dear mother. Through her pure heart Mary was blessed by the heavens and was said to have been born without original sin. After her death, and “having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory “.
