Picking the perfect Christmas card

Christmas comes but once a year and for many of us the holiday season brings with it a dose of good cheer, all except the multitude of present wrapping and card sending and writing that we all have to endure.

However, preparing early and being organised allows to tackle the Christmas card chore effortlessly and with ease.

First of all, prepare your list of names (a little like Santa) and do check it twice to make sure nobody is missed off the list.

In fact you can specifically buy a contact book to keep all the addresses of friends, family and work colleagues in to make sure you remember everyone.

After this, then subdivide the names into specific groups and effectively prioritise.

Initially, concentrate on close family and for the last few years make or purchase photo Christmas cards as it feels different and more personal.

As an example, you could add a photograph of your home covered in snow taken early last winter in November 2010, for your family’s seasons greetings cards.

Also rather than generically putting “To….” “Merry Christmas” and “From….” into each card, write specific messages to your parents, grandparents, siblings and partner. It is the little personal touches that help create the perfect Christmas card.

Following this, turn your attention to your large, mixed and varied group of friends who seem to be dotted all over the place and everywhere nowadays.

For example, a friend tried electronic Christmas cards last year – sending them through social networking sites and email - but it just wasn’t the same as physically opening an envelope and seeing who the card is from.

What you might have learn over recent years is to buy traditional themed cards for your friends, and these seem to have gone down really well as they are sending similar ones back.

However, it isn’t all about what the image that is on the front of the card, it’s the message that is conveyed inside which holds the most meaning.

In fact, over the last couple of years friends might have come up with clever limericks or short poems that they’ve put on the interior.

If not they’ve mentioned that we will meet up over the holiday period or will have a catch up in the New Year.

Personal is pivotal in picking and receiving the perfect Christmas cards.
